New Years Eve in Yarra 2020

Celebrate New Years' Eve in Yarra with us at a family-friendly picnic in the park. Join us from 2pm at Richmond's Barkly Gardens, or Fitzroy North's Edinburgh Gardens for a free pop-up cinema with two screenings, and low-key live music.

Grab a bite from one of the food trucks, or pre-order a picnic hamper in time for the family movie at 7pm. DJs Mike Gurrieri and Emelyne Khor will be playing some tunes at Barkly Gardens from 2pm. Over in Edinburgh Gardens, Bob Sedergreen and Friends will perform a 4-hour jazz set.

7:30pm: Movie 1 – Paddington 2. Paddington takes up a job to accumulate enough money to buy the perfect gift for his aunt on her 100th birthday, but it gets stolen.

9:30pm: Movie 2 – TBC

Music

Northside Records presents DJs Mike Gurrieri and Emelyne Khor NYE at Barkly Gardens. Located at 236 Gertrude St. Fitzroy, Northside Records has been satisfying Melbourne's taste for soul and funk (especially vinyl) since 2002.

Food stalls

Event activation experts Lost in L.A have partnered with some iconic food institutions from Yarra. A coffee cart will be on hand from 12pm–3pm while picnic grazing boxes in two sizes will be offered by Laikon Deli, a Bridge Road deli institution for preorder and collection on the day.

WrapnRollit: a Vietnamese trader from Victoria st has a well -know food truck offering with yummy Bao's to Bahn Mi's.

Then dinner and film snacks are sorted with a burger truck, My Whippy icecream van and the Airsteam Movie Snack Shack (for popcorn, choc tops, fairy floss).

Music

Hear a programme of easy listening music to see out 2020. Bob Sedergreen's, high regard and position in Australian music is unquestionable. His impact and influence in performance, composition and education for over half a century has secured his place as a national treasure. Bob was won the respect and admiration of recognised talents both in Australia and internationally.

Friends joining Bob include: Drummer, Sonja Horbelt, is one of the most in demand session musicians in Victoria. Her empathy and association with Bob covers many decades, many recordings and many bands, including "Art Attack", "The First One", "The Hottentots". The Stonnington Gardens Jazz Showband bassist, Jon Chidgey, is a talented arranger and composer and ensures a tight rhythm section. Guitarist, Adam Orlando, is a graduate of the VCA., and is a man with a big sound and a big heart. Trumpeter and vocalist, Rohan Wallis, influences include as well as jazz, progressive and post modern music.

Food stalls

Hamed's Persian Kitchen Hamed is a Persian chef, caterer and cooking instructor who was born in Iran's capital Tehran and migrated to Australia in 2012. Since calling Melbourne home, Hamed's work has focussed on sharing Persian culture and his culinary heritage with the local Melbourne community through food experiences.

Hamed's Kitchen is a social enterprise that employs and empowers other refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants who share the experiences and difficulties Hamed faced upon his arrival in Australia.

DD's Kitchen DD's Kitchen works to eliminate hunger and improve the health and well-being of community by providing access to healthy and nutritious foods. Run by Melbourne Indian Chef Daman Shrivastav, DD's Kitchen has provided those in need with home-cooked meals for over 10 years.
