OIST, Araya Launch New Tool OptiNiSt for Image Analysis

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University

The Neural Computation Unit (Prof. Kenji Doya) at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) and Araya Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Ryota Kanai), a company engaged in artificial intelligence (AI) and neuroscience research and development, have jointly developed an optical neural imaging analysis tool called "Optical Neuroimage Studio (OptiNiSt)". The new tool, detailed in PLOS Computational Biology on 19 May 2025, supports researchers to create reliable, reproducible data analyses.

OptiNiSt was developed as open-source software based on specifications designed by OIST researchers, with program implementation commissioned to Araya under the support of the

Brain/MINDS 2.0 program of the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED).
