OMCG assault charge, Gold Coast

Today, officers from State Crime Command's Taskforce Maxima arrested and charged a 45-year-old Burleigh Heads man following the serious assault of a 42-year-old man at a hotel in Palm Beach on Saturday, January 19 2019.

Police were called to the scene following a confrontation between a patron of the hotel and three men around 12pm. It is alleged the victim was knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked and punched until he lost consciousness. It will be alleged the victim and offender were known to each other. It will be further alleged the 45-year-old man arrested today is the President of the Gold Coast Chapter of the Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

The man was charged today with affray and was taken to the Southport Watchhouse where bail has been refused, pending a court appearance tomorrow morning.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.

"This was a cowardly assault which occurred in a public place on a victim who lay defenceless on the ground. This level of violence has no place in our community and strengthens the unwavering commitment of Taskforce Maxima to continue our pursuit of members of outlaw motorcycle gangs involved in criminal activities.

"The QPS will continue to use every legal mechanism available to dismantle and disrupt organised crime gangs operating in this State," said Detective Inspector Glen Donaldson of the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad.
