Further testing has confirmed the person of interest case announced this morning has the virus. The person is a close contact of the Greek Community Centre and will be included in tomorrow's case numbers.
This means Queensland has recorded two new cases of COVID-19 today, one overseas acquired case detected in hotel quarantine and one locally acquired case linked to the Portuguese community centre.
Queensland's Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said contact tracing was underway with any relevant exposure sites to be published to the Queensland Health contact tracing locations website as soon as they become available.
"I want to thank every Queenslander for doing the right thing and coming forward for testing if they had been in an exposure site," Dr Young said.
"I encourage all Queenslanders to continue checking the contact tracing website regularly as it will continuously be updated as new locations come in.
"While lockdown ended at 6pm yesterday, it is important Queenslanders continue to follow the restrictions currently in place for the next 12 days.
"Please carry a mask with you whenever you are outside your home and continue to check in at shops and venues.
"The check in app becomes mandatory on the 9th of July, so it is important that venues and shops are ready for when that takes place.
"If you haven't done so already, please register for your own QR code, don't wait until the 9th of July.
"It is also important that you have someone checking that people have correctly checked in before entering and walking around your premises."
Dr Young said of the two new cases today, only one was locally acquired and directly linked to the Portuguese community centre.
"There was one new case detected in hotel quarantine from a person that was a returned traveller from overseas," Dr Young said.
"The confirmed case today was also a close contact of the Greek community centre and has been in home quarantine from 2 July.
"This person has been in the community while in the potentially infectious period so I urge Queenslanders to continue to check the contact tracing locations website and follow any health advice.
"It is also so important that Queenslanders continue to wear masks whenever they are not in their own home.
"It is also important that we continue to socially distance where you can and get tested at even the slightest COVID-19 symptom."
Dr Young said that anyone that is due for their second Pfizer vaccination should make it a priority.
"It is vital that Queenslanders are getting their second Pfizer shot withing the 42 days.
"Anyone that is due for their second that is unable to get an appointment within that time frame should call 134 COVID (13 42 68) to organise an appointment.
"Alternatively they can also walk in to their nearest vaccination clinic that is offering Pfizer."
Dr Young thanked those who have come forward in relation to the contact tracing locations.
"We currently have more than 4,000 people in quarantine," Dr Young said.
"It is important that people currently in home quarantine do not leave quarantine unless there is an immediate danger in their home or to get tested."
Police will be doing compliance checks and there is a hefty fine for those who do not comply.
