Pint of Science Dives Into Big Questions

Pubs across Liverpool will host a series of science talks this month as Pint of Science returns with a three-day programme of engaging and thought-provoking events.

Running from Monday 18 May to Wednesday 20 May, the festival will bring together more than 30 researchers from the University of Liverpool and other local institutions, speaking at venues including The Bridewell, The Ship and Mitre and the District House.

As always, audiences can expect lively discussions and surprising scientific insights spanning everything from cutting edge physics to the quirks of human behaviour. Tickets are available from the Pint of Science website (pintofscience.co.uk), costing just £5 each.

Blending science with storytelling and humour, Pint of Science offers a unique chance to explore big ideas in a relaxed pub setting - highlights include:

  • Fuelling the Future - Explore the future of energy generation, the world of particle physics and why science needs philosophy!
  • Tails and Ales - Join the University's School of Veterinary Science and discover life saving research for horses, the secrets of ageing dogs, the mystery of alpacas and a global frog pandemic!
  • A Feast for the Mind - Take a journey through the world of food from bottomless brunches in the deep sea, to fuel for cancer cells to the sweet and sour history of Chinese food in the UK!
  • From Head to Toe - Travel through the human body from our heads all the way down to our toes. From eyes to feet to brain, discover the remarkable science that makes you, you.

Laura Winters, Public Engagement Officer, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of Liverpool said: "We're excited to be bringing Pint of Science back to Liverpool once again. Not only are we having fun, and inviting our audiences to learn something new, but we're also highlighting the incredible research taking place right here in Liverpool. Pint of Science gives researchers the opportunity to share their stories and allows our audiences the chance to ask questions with the people behind the science.

"Some events have already sold out, so we advise people to book their tickets soon!"

Alongside the main talks, audiences can enjoy a range of interactive interval activities, including pub quizzes and voting for your favourite Shot of Science - fast‑paced, three‑minute talks that offer a whistle‑stop tour of some of the inspiring research taking place here in Liverpool.

Pint of Science is co-ordinated by the University's Faculty of Health and Life Sciences which has recently been recognised with a prestigious award for its outstanding public engagement work.
