Police charge man after car crashed into Lightning Ridge Police Station

A man has been charged after a car crashed into Lightning Ridge Police Station today.

Officers attached to Central North Police District were alerted after a Toyota Camry crashed through a front fence and into the foyer of the building on Opal Street about 5.10am (Tuesday 17 November 2020).

The building sustained serious damage to the front doors and foyer; it was unmanned at the time.

A 38-year-old Lightning Ridge man was arrested at the scene and taken to Walgett Police Station, before being taken to Lightning Ridge District Hospital for observation.

Upon release from hospital, the man was taken back to the station and charged with destroy or damage property over $15,000, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and hinder sample taker attempting take blood/urine sample.

He was refused bail to appear before Walgett Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 18 November 2020).
