Police seek information after reported child approach at Kiama

Police are appealing for information after reports of a child approach at Kiama yesterday.

About 1pm (Sunday 9 November 2020), an 11-year-old girl was playing hide and seek behind the surf club at Surf Beach, when she was grabbed on the ankle by an unknown man who was in the bushes.

Police have been told the girl kicked the man, before running away and alerting her parents and lifeguards.

The man fled on foot towards Barney Street, Kiama.

The incident was reported to officers from Lake Illawarra Police District who commenced an investigation.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist them.

The man is described as being aged in his 20s, with short black hair and wearing a face mask, denim shorts, a black t-shirt and sunglasses with red tips on the arms.

Police are appealing to anyone who might have been in the area yesterday and witnessed anything, to come forward.

Inquiries are continuing.
