Pro-active policing operation at Tamworth

Officers from the Oxley Police District have conducted a high-visibility enforcement operation in the Tamworth area.

Operation Southbreak was conducted from Friday (4 December 2020) until Sunday (6 December 2020) with a focus on all aspects of criminal activity, including that people on bail were complying with their conditions.

The operation involved officers from General Duties, Proactive Crime Team, detectives, Highway Patrol and Region Enforcement Squad.

During the operation a number of offences were detected, including:

- 6 x charges relating to exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol while driving a motor vehicle

- 4 x charges for driving under the influence of a drug

- 22 x traffic infringements issued

- 1 x charge for property related crime

Acting Inspector Jason Darcy, Oxley Police District, said the commitment of police assigned to the operation resulted in a number of detections for serious criminal offences.

"The number of alcohol and drug impaired drivers detected was disappointing."

"But I firmly believe that the efforts of police who detected these drivers prevented an inevitable tragedy from occurring on our roads."

"There will be further proactive policing activities in the lead up to the Christmas and new year period," said Acting Inspector Darcy.
