Remember to give yourself a little extra time when flying to or from Pullman this fall.
The Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport is shutting down for about a month beginning Sept. 8 to shift from its existing runway to a brand new one capable of accommodating larger commercial aircraft.
The first commercial flight using the new runway is scheduled for Oct. 11. The new runway will be equipped with an instrument landing system, a radio navigation tool that will aid crews in times of inclement weather.
More than 5,600 passengers flew out of Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport in September of 2018, an increase of more than 2,000 passengers from five years prior.
The airport recommends anyone impacted by its closure to book flights through Spokane International Airport, as Alaska Mileage Plan members who fly with the airline during the closure window can earn double points on flights between Spokane and Seattle. Wheatland Express will be running extra routes to Spokane International Airport during the closure.
Alternatively, for those who don't need to get directly to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Delta has daily flights out of Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport to Salt Lake City International Airport.
