Salamanca Arts Centre Upgrade

The Liberal and Nationals Government has today committed $200,000 to upgrade the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard in Hobart.

The Salamanca Arts Centre has been a creative hub for southern Tasmania for more than 40 years providing venues for exhbitions, events, festivals, functions, parties and weddings.

Demand for use of the centre has increased dramatically over recent years and this investment will ensure that it remains a safe, stimulating and dynamic space that reflects the expectations of the local community.

This funding will go towards construction and installation of timber seating, outdoor tables and chairs for up to 60 people, six demountable/relocatable shade umbrellas, installation of a raised green space including pots and plants for the courtyard, upgrades to sound and light infrastructure for performances and video art, re-fitting of existing retail spaces and installation of site-specific artwork and interpretive signs.

This project will create a safe and enjoyable place for visitors to the region and the entire community, in particular the elderly, people living with a disibility, children and their families.

Investments such as this build stronger rural communities and make the regions an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

This project will also create jobs in the region, boost the local economy and help the community to thrive, prosper and grow.
