Leading law firm Slater and Gordon Lawyers is urging any witnesses of possible historic child sexual abuse at Fort Street High School in Sydney's inner-west in the early 1980s to come forward.
Slater and Gordon have commenced proceedings against the State of NSW on behalf of a 57-year-old client, alleging she was abused by her teacher while at Fort Street High School.
Slater and Gordon Senior Associate, Emily Clarke said that the firm is seeking information from members of the public who attended Fort Street School in the early 1980s.
"Our client was aged between 13 and 14 when she first attended the school and has since been left with psychological injuries including suffering from anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and insomnia."
"The experience has not only significantly impacted her mental and physical health, but it stopped her education in its tracks, she was left unable to fully pursue her academic goals."
Our client alleges the abuse occurred in plain sight, on school grounds, in circumstances where the plaintiff was entitled to expect she would be supervised and safe.
The client alleged that when the school was notified at the time of the abuse it was ignored and dismissed and the abuse escalated significantly in a violent manner.
Ms Clarke said any information could be useful in helping Slater and Gordon understand how extensive the alleged abuse by this teacher was.
