Sunshine Coast Council has a plan to preserve the region's heritage and is inviting the community to have their say.
The draft Sunshine Coast Heritage Plan 2021–2031 is available for comment until Sunday December 13 via a short survey on council's 'Have your Say' webpage.
Community Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the existing Sunshine Coast Heritage Plan 2015-2020 was our region's first and had delivered a raft of wins for our region such as increased support for our community museums and greater protection for our heritage places and it was important we maintained that momentum.
"The new draft 10-year plan has been developed following extensive collaboration with the Sunshine Coast Heritage community and the outcome, we believe, truly reflects the best way forward for our region's heritage," Cr Baberowski said.
"It's incredibly important now, to understand if we've got it right and seek community opinion about a range of heritage topics, from preserving and understanding First Nations' heritage to supporting cultural heritage infrastructure, museum sector development programs and awareness raising events."
As an incentive at this busy time of year, early birds who complete the survey will receive tickets to their choice of either a drive in Christmas movie at Eumundi or Maleny, or a special radio play performance of Pinocchio at Bankfoot House. Plus, all participants will go in the draw to win an ipad.
All feedback received will be used to inform final amendments to the document before the draft Heritage Plan 2021-2031 is presented to council for consideration in 2021.
Once endorsed, the Sunshine Coast Heritage Plan will inform the development of the annual Heritage Levy Program, funded by the Heritage Levy.
