The Government needs to stop making re-announcements and get on with the job of building new affordable and social housing.
Shadow Minister for Housing Alison Standen said the Government must work harder to address the state's housing crisis.
"The Government announced in early June that it would build 1000 new social housing homes costing $100 million over 3 years," Ms Standen said.
"Why has it taken the Government three and a half months to announce they are starting an EOI process that closes at the end of November?
"Sadly for the nearly 3,600 people on the housing wait list, this Government's record of achievement has a long way to go to keep up with its record of announcements.
"The Liberal Government inherited a housing wait list that was the lowest in a decade – it has since blown out.
"For the first term in Government, the Liberals delivered less than half the number of new homes it promised.
"We are calling on the Government to adopt Labor's Housing Works policy which would fast track the building of 490 more affordable homes and deliver 550 new jobs including 75 apprenticeships during the construction phase.
"Housing Works also commits to supporting community housing providers to make these newly constructed homes available at a reduced, affordable rental price.
"The Housing Works policy is an important part of Labor's COVID-19 Recovery Package which formed the basis of Labor's submission to the Premier's Economic and Social Recovery Advisory Council.
"We know that housing ends homelessness and the government needs to adopt Labor's policy and show its commitment to the growing number of Tasmanians facing homelessness."
