Tradies to rescue after attempted armed robbery in Collingwood

With their steel-cap boots hitting the pavement and high-vis vests flapping two fleet-footed tradies ran down and arrested a would-be robber in Collingwood this morning.

The incident happened on Smith Street when the victim, a 34-year-old Fitzroy woman, withdraw an amount of money from an ATM just before 9am.

The victim removed her cash from the machine when she was approached by a man allegedly holding a knife.

The victim screamed and ran north along Smith Street.

Two construction workers, a 22-year-old Park Orchards man and his 30-year-old sidekick, heard the commotion and took action, and effecting a citizen's arrest and holding the man until police arrived.

A 36-year-old Coburg man is in custody and is expected to be interviewed by Melbourne Embona Armed Robbery Taskforce detectives later this afternoon.
