Toowoomba Regional Council's (TRC) winter garden watering times have come into effect from today (April 1).
TRC Water and Waste General Manager Damian Platts said residents were being reminded to switch to the revised schedule, depending on their street number, that allowed garden watering between 4.30 and 5.30pm, except Mondays, until September 30.
Mr Platts said residents on Medium level water restrictions (175 litres/person/day) who lived in odd numbered properties could water gardens on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, while residents in even or unnumbered properties could water gardens on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
"Residents (on the Medium level restriction regime) can use a hand-held hose with a trigger or twist nozzle, an efficient irrigation system or efficient sprinkler to water gardens before 8am and between 4.30 and 5.30pm," Mr Platts said.
"Residents with established gardens and lawns can use a watering can or bucket to water before 8am and after 4pm on any day except Monday.
"There are slight changes for residents around the region who are on the High level water restrictions, which limit water usage to 150 litres/person/day.
"Residents on High level water restrictions who live in odd numbered properties can water gardens on Tuesday and Saturday, while residents in even or unnumbered properties can water gardens on Wednesday and Sunday using a hand-held hose with a trigger or twist nozzle, but no irrigation systems or sprinklers.
"A range of other outdoor activities such as vehicle washing, general cleaning, animal husbandry and pet care allowances are listed on our website at www.tr.qld.gov.au/water
"It is timely for residents to remember that water restrictions remain across the region.
"Most towns and localities are on the Medium water restriction regime with the High level restrictions in force for residents at Cambooya, Cecil Plains, Clifton, Vale View and Yarraman.
"Residents have been abiding by the required targets and Council is most appreciative of this ongoing consideration.
"Council's website also contains advice around water saving initiatives and tips for restricting household water use when showering and cleaning in and around the home."
Mr Platts said residents on the Toowoomba Bulk Water Supply had used an average 157 litres/person/day in the past week, with a yearly residential average of 175l/p/d in the current financial year.
"We must continue to preserve our valuable drinking supplies wherever possible as we head into the traditionally dry autumn and winter seasons."
