Two men and a woman have been charged after a police vehicle was allegedly rammed on the state's Far North Coast yesterday.
About 12pm (Thursday 29 April 2021), officers from Tweed/Byron Police District found an allegedly stolen black Jeep Cherokee 4WD being driven through a service centre on the Pacific Motorway at Chinderah, just south of Tweed Heads.
When police approached the vehicle, the 4WD accelerated harshly, narrowly avoiding one of the officers. The vehicle then rammed a parked police vehicle and another vehicle, before it stopped nearby.
Additional police including the Dog Unit arrived and arrested three of the four occupants from the Jeep.
The two officers in the vehicle were not hurt; however, two police vehicles were significantly damaged.
During a search of the Jeep, police located a loaded .22 calibre rifle, a number of knives, a small amount of methylamphetamine and stolen identity documents.
The trio were taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where they were each charged with a number of offences.
A 30-year-old man was charged with three offences including being carried in a conveyance taken without consent of the owner, possess prohibited drug and custody of a knife in a public place.
A 21-year-old man was charged with being carried in a conveyance taken without consent of the owner and goods in custody.
A 24-year-old woman was charged with seven offences including being carried in a conveyance taken without consent of the owner, possess prohibited drug, custody of a knife in a public place, goods in custody and three outstanding warrants.
All three were refused bail and will appear before Tween Heads Local Court today (Friday 30 April 2021)
Investigations are continuing to locate the fourth occupant of the Jeep.
