Two men denied bail over police assaults - Sutherland PAC

Police have arrested and charged two men accused of attacking officers during a vehicle stop this morning at Caringbah in Sydney's south.

Around 10am today (Monday 29 July 2019), two officers from the Sutherland Police Area Command were on foot, patrolling on The Kingsway when two men allegedly screamed abuse and made offensive gestures from a passing car.

The policemen got in their vehicle and caught up to the Toyota Camry, pulling it over in President Lane.

Following alcohol and drug tests, it's alleged the extremely hostile driver reached through the open window and punched a senior constable in the face and then swung his legs up and kicked him.

He then allegedly kicked and punched the second senior constable.

The passenger allegedly screamed at the officers and tried to prevent his friend's arrest.

Other police arrived at the scene and both men were removed from the vehicle and handcuffed.

They were taken to Sutherland Police Station where the 32-year-old driver was charged with two counts of assault police, resist arrest and offensive conduct.

His 29-year-old passenger was charged with wilfully obstruct police.

Both were refused bail by police and ordered to appear before Sutherland Local Court tomorrow.
