Mines, Petroleum and Exploration Minister Daniel Pastorelli has congratulated The Perth Mint on achieving the Guinness World Records title for the Largest Gold Bar.

Created in Western Australia using Australian Origin Gold, the record-breaking bar weighed 521.2 kilograms at the time of the official record attempt, surpassing the previous world record by more than 200 kilograms.

The achievement showcases the expertise of Western Australian workers and highlights the important role The Perth Mint plays in adding value to one of the State's most important resources.

More than 35 specialists from across The Perth Mint's Refinery and Assay Laboratory contributed to the project, which produced a gold bar refined to an exceptional purity of 99.999 per cent.

The bar contains gold contributed by AngloGold Ashanti Australia, BHP, Evolution Mining, Gold Fields, Greatland Gold, Newmont Australia, Northern Star, Norton Gold Fields, and Pantoro, reflecting the strength of Western Australia's gold industry and the partnerships that underpin the gold value chain.

The Perth Mint is one of Western Australia's most recognised brands internationally and a globally respected precious metals institution, supporting jobs, exports, and economic activity while showcasing Western Australian expertise to customers around the world.

The project demonstrates the important role advanced refining and downstream processing play in creating additional value from Western Australia's mineral resources and aligns with the Cook Labor Government's Made in WA agenda, with a focus on growing local industry, supporting skilled jobs, and expanding value-added manufacturing.

As stated by Mines, Petroleum and Exploration Minister Daniel Pastorelli:

"The Perth Mint is one of Western Australia's great success stories and this achievement is a powerful demonstration of the expertise, innovation, and ingenuity that exists within our State.

"Western Australia is recognised globally for its gold industry, but this project highlights another important part of the story - how we add value to our resources through world-class refining, advanced technology, and highly skilled people.

"This Guinness World Records title belongs not only to The Perth Mint, but to the many Western Australians who work across our gold industry and help maintain our reputation as a global leader in gold production and refining.

"The World's Largest Gold Bar showcases the skills, capability, and innovation that support local jobs and contribute to our economy, while shining a spotlight on Western Australia on the world stage."
