Youth arrested over bus driver assault at Salisbury Downs, SA

A youth has been arrested and a bus driver has been taken to hospital for treatment after he was allegedly assaulted this morning at Salisbury Downs, according to SA Police.

Just before 11am on Monday 16 July, a teenage boy hailed a bus at stop 44 on Salisbury Highway near Londonerry Avenue, but he allegedly refused to purchase or validate a ticket.

When the male bus driver asked the youth to get off the bus, the youth allegedly punched the driver in the face and then ran off.

A witness contacted police with the teenage boy last seen walking on Spains Road. A police patrol searched the area locating the youth nearby.

A 15-year-old boy from Salisbury Downs has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, he is expected to be bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Youth Court at a later date.

The bus driver was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital for treatment to minor facial injuries.
