In recognition of the award, Dr Roldo delivered the IAAM Scientist Medal lecture entitled "Chitosan Potential in Biomedicals" at the 54th Assembly of the Advanced Materials Congress and has since been admitted as a Fellow of the IAAM. Her presentation explored the work she has carried out over the last decade using chitosan, a sustainable natural polymer obtained from seafood waste, for applications such as drug delivery, tissue engineering and antibacterial formulations to combat implant-related infections and dental caries (also known as tooth decay or dental cavities).

Dr Roldo said: "I am honoured to have been awarded the Scientist Medal. This international recognition reaffirms the value of my work in developing sustainable biomaterials for biomedical applications and gives me the confidence to continue pursuing this field of research in collaboration with international colleagues."
