ACTU/COSBOA casual employment proposal is bad for small business

Small businesses across Australia will be dismayed by the deal announced today by one small business organisation with the ACTU on casual employment provisions in the Government's IR Bill.

Acting CEO of ACCI, Jenny Lambert said: "The deal would continue to expose small business owners to double dipping claims by casuals of up to $39 billion and fails to deliver small businesses the certainty they need".

"The proposed amendments reflect a naivety as to the implications on business.

"This one-sided proposal must be thoroughly rejected by the Senate.

"We again urge the Parliament to pass a balanced package and demonstrate that it is capable of dealing with modest and effective IR reform that reflects the needs of modern workplaces."
