Appeal to ID driver of stolen car - Hunter region

Inquiries are continuing to identify the driver of a stolen car which was seen driving dangerously through the Hunter and Central Coast yesterday afternoon.

Police tried to stop a 2020-model silver Lexus station wagon at Charlestown about 3.30pm (Tuesday 26 April 2022); however, allege the driver did not stop when directed but instead drove on the wrong side of the road.

Officers from several commands continued to monitor the vehicle's progress through Lambton, Broadmeadow, Waratah and surrounding suburbs until about 5pm when it was found abandoned at a shopping centre on Blue Gum Road at Jesmond.

The vehicle has been preserved for forensic examination as inquiries continue to identify the driver and any passengers.

The vehicle was reported stolen from Merewether between Monday 11 April 2022 and Tuesday 12 April 2022.

Police are continuing investigations to identify people believed to be associated with the stolen vehicle and crimes throughout the Hunter region.
