Brigade boosted by badges

Two students from Anderson's Creek Primary School (ACPS) have raised almost $500 for Warrandyte Fire Brigade after making badges and selling them to the school community.

After last year's bushfire season, Ruby and Maya wanted to do something to give back to CFA and the local members at Warrandyte Fire Brigade.

They started making two different badges to support CFA, but in March as Coronavirus restrictions came into play they had to put a pause on selling their badges.

Warrandyte Fire Brigade Treasurer Ray Hiller said he was blown away when he heard these students had used their initiative to raise funds for the brigade.

"They did this completely on their own; it wasn't something the school had asked them to do," Ray said.

"The fact that Coronavirus got in the way and they still came back to make and sell these badges is truly amazing.

"We are incredibly grateful to these students and everyone at ACPS for recognising the efforts of each of our volunteers down at the brigade.

"Not only does the donation make a significant impact, but these students have taken their own personal time to make a real difference in our community.

"The brigade has just bought a new FCV and we need important items like torches and other equipment to help us respond to incidents," Ray added, "and we can use this money to buy these items ready for the upcoming fire season."

Anderson's Creek Primary School also presented the brigade with a letter from the students and a number of paintings created by the prep school students to show the Warrandyte members their support.

Warrandyte Brigade Treasurer Ray Hiller attended the school to collect these donations and all COVID safety measures were followed.
