Teresa Cabré, lecturer in the Department of Catalan Studies, and Xavier Navarro, lecturer in the Department of Cellular Biology, Physiology and Immunology, have been elected members of the UAB's Scientific Integrity Committee.
The Spanish Research Ethics Committee (CEEI) recently published a document with guidelines on how to create and operate research integrity committees within the current regulatory framework on research and universities, which includes the Law on Science, Technology and Innovation, the Organic Law on the University System (LOSU, 2023), and legislation on data protection.
These committees must be collective and independent bodies, with a primarily advisory function. Among their functions are the promotion of codes of good practice, the management of possible cases of malpractice—even ex officio—and the processing of procedures that ensure the right to a hearing, confidentiality and protection of all the people involved. The committees also play an important role in training and raising awareness among research staff, promoting activities that foster responsible research and respect data protection.
