Musical theatre group and winners of Britain's Got Talent, Collabro will perform one last time at the Cathedral, as part of their Farewell Tour, on Saturday 25 March 2023. We are working with local partners to sponsor this event to help combat poverty for children in our region.

Poverty hurts

Around 38 per cent of children now live below the poverty line in the North-East – the worst poverty rate in the entire UK. This event has been organised by the High Sheriff of Durham, Shona Harper-Wilkes in a bid to raise money for the County Durham Community Foundation in aid of their Poverty Hurts Appeal.

Each year, the foundation helps families living in absolute poverty to buy cookers, beds, washing machines and clothing, to keep their children fed, safe, clean, and warm. An example of one recent hardship grant was £2,000 to fund breakfast clubs at two primary schools and one nursery where at least 60 per cent of the children were arriving at school without any food.

Our community

Durham is a world-leading university and proudly part of North East England. We partner with and support local organisations and people in our wider community. It takes us all to make a difference. This gives us an opportunity.

From inspiring learning to sharing our facilities, from driving economic growth to helping our region become more sustainable: we ensure that the benefits of a world-leading university are shared across our city, county and region.
