East Gippsland Shire Council celebrated the work of its staff and contribution to the community this week, with the announcement of their annual Living Our Values Awards.
The staff recognition awards celebrate individuals and teams nominated by their colleagues for demonstrating Council's values of Respect, Collaboration, Integrity and Accountability as well as an All-Rounder category for those who embody all four.
Chief Executive Officer Fiona Weigall described the announcement of the values awards recipients and celebration of nominees for all awards as an opportunity to reflect on how Council goes about its work in the community, and working together across a large and dispersed organisation.
"Our people are also community members themselves, and it's important we acknowledge their contribution to our organisation but to the communities in which they live."
"This year marked the largest number of nominations ever received for the Living Our Values Awards across the individual and team categories - a strong reflection of the pride, teamwork and commitment shown right across the organisation," Fiona said.
"Award recipients reflected teams and services including construction, place planning, health and safety, governance, planning, engagement, youth, parks and gardens, waste and agribusiness."
Council's long-serving staff including some who've dedicated more than 20 years to the organisation as well as two of Council's teams who were acknowledged through the LGPro Awards earlier this year - a nomination for a Service Excellence Award and a win in the Disaster Readiness and Recovery category - were also celebrated among their peers.
