Eight TSU Scientists Among Top 2% of Global Most-Cited

Scopus, the large citation database by Elsevier, has published a listing of the top 2% of the world's most-cited scientists. It contains more than 900 Russian scientists, including eight from Tomsk State University.

The publications of more than 200,000 scientists were analyzed, and affiliation to a country and organization was determined by the latest article.

Based on an analysis of 2022 publications, included in the top 2% of the world's most-cited scientists are:

Mikhail Sheremet, professor, head of the Research Laboratory of Modeling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer Processes, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics (MMF), TSU

Mohammad Ghalambaz, researcher in the Research Laboratory of Modeling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer Processes, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, TSU

Victor Atuchin, senior researcher of the Laboratory of Synchrotron Radiation Detectors, Research and Development Center Advanced Technologies in Microelectronics Faculty of Radiophysics, TSU; head of the Laboratory of Optical Materials and Structures, Rzhanov Institute of Semiconductor Physics (Novosibirsk)

Vladimir Ivanchenko, leading researcher of the Laboratory of Experimental High Energy Physics, TSU Science Department

Alexey Bashkatov, physicist, worked in the Biophotonics Laboratory of TSU and Saratov State University

Yuri Chumlyakov, professor, head of the Laboratory of Physics of High-Strength Crystals, SFTI TSU

Nadezhda Bondareva, researcher in the Research Laboratory of Modeling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer Processes, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, TSU

Dmitry Petrov, associate professor of the Department of Optics and Spectroscopy, Faculty of Physics, TSU; head of KB, All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

It should be noted that in 2018 and 2022, MMF professor Mikhail Sheremet was recognized as the most-cited scientist according to the rating of the company Clarivate, which is the owner of the Web of Science citation database.

Furthermore, Nadezhda Bondareva, a researcher at the MMF, was ranked in the Stanford-Elsevier ranking of top 2% top-cited researchers.

In addition, Mikhail Sheremet, Victor Atuchin, Robert Pil, Mohammad Ghalambaz, Yuri Chumlyakov, and Alexey Bashkatov are included in the new top-2% ranking of the world's most cited scientists, which takes into account all citations from the author's first article to the end of 2022 (Scopus data from 10.01.2023).

The new rating also includes leading scientists who worked at Tomsk State University on mega-grants. These are Alexey Volynsky, acknowledged expert in biotechnology, University of South Florida, USA; Igor Lednev, specialist in Raman spectroscopy, leading researcher at the University at Albany, New York State; Richard Ernst, professor, world expert in geology and volcanism from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada; Valery Tuchin, scientist from Saratov State University, with extensive experience in studying the optical properties of biotissues; and Vladimir Tyuterev, senior researcher at the Laboratory of Theoretical Spectroscopy of the V.E.
