Celebrating local and Australian artists, the Wyndham Art Prize returns in 2021 for the seventh year in a row.
Entries are now open for the contemporary art prize, one of Wyndham's most anticipated art and cultural events.
Attracting artists from across Australia, the prize is an opportunity for local and emerging artists to exhibit their work alongside some of Australia's best artists.
The recipient of the 2021 Wyndham Art Prize will be awarded $12,000 in prize money and the recipient of the Local Emerging Art Prize will receive $5000. The winner of the People's Choice Award will be awarded $2,500, sponsored by Arts Assist.
In addition to the prize money and in a commitment to showcase and support Wyndham's artistic talent, the winning artwork of the Local Emerging Art Prize will become part of the Wyndham City Contemporary Art Collection and be displayed publicly.
Artists can submit their entry from now until 9am 21 February 2021. Entries are submitted online via the Wyndham City Council website.
Artworks can take any form, including sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, photography, installation, sound digital and video.
Shortlisted entries are selected by the Wyndham Art Gallery curatorial team and winners are judged by an external panel of judges.
Wyndham Art Prize is open to any solo artist, duo or collective who are Australian citizens or permanent residents living and working in Australia.
In 2020 the exhibition of the shortlisted works was presented on a digital exhibition platform and was viewed by over 22,000 people in the first 2 weeks of 'opening'.
Director of City Design and Liveability, Ludo Campbell-Reid said the prize was building the reputation of Wyndham as a place where art is valued and central to our residents experience.
"For the past six years the Wyndham Art Prize has attracted entries from artists from across Australia and developed our reputation for curating and presenting a diverse and contemporary program of art." Mr Campbell-Reid said.
"The prize has grown in both quality and reputation and the inclusion of local artists in the shortlisting should provide the local creative community with an incentive to be involved."
