Evade police and motor vehicle crash

On Sunday 22 November 2020 at about 12:12am while conducting random breath tests on Wellington Street, Launceston police stopped a white Nissan Patrol. The driver of this vehicle was a 24 year old male from Invermay. He completed a breath test before evading police and driving away at speed.

The vehicle drove south on Wellington Street until it reached the intersection with Brisbane Street, Launceston. It is alleged the vehicle entered the intersection, against a red light. As a result the vehicle crashed into a Black Mitsubishi Lancer, causing the Nissan to roll, coming to a rest on it's side.

The driver of the vehicle was apprehended by police and subsequently charged with numerous traffic offences including evade police (aggravated circumstances), exceed the prescribed alcohol limit and reckless driving. He was bailed to appear in the Launceston Court of Petty Sessions at a later date.

Fortunately no one received any serious injuries as a result of the crash.

Police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the white Nissan Patrol prior to the crash. Any information can be provided to the Launceston Police Station on 6777 3945.
