Five biotech startups from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) are participating in the BIO International Convention 2026 (BIO 2026), taking place from 22 to 25 June 2026 in San Diego, United States. The HKU teams are showcasing a range of cutting-edge research achievements across vaccine development, innovative therapies, precision diagnostics, and AI-enabled medical technologies, demonstrating the University's leadership in knowledge transfer and its commitment to translating world-class research into impactful clinical solutions.
HKU is dedicated to advancing cross-disciplinary research and innovation-driven entrepreneurship, supported by a robust and sustainable knowledge transfer ecosystem. Through participating in this international Convention, the University aims to showcase HKU's outstanding research excellence in medicine and biotechnology to the global audience. This initiative will further strengthen our industry-academia-research collaborations, forge new strategic partnerships, and ultimately seek to bridge the gap between laboratory breakthroughs and real-world healthcare solutions, delivering meaningful benefits to patients worldwide.

- BriWhite Limited
Founded by Professor Ye Zhou of the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, BriWhite Limited leverages biocompatible piezoelectric technology to develop advanced teeth-whitening solutions. By harnessing the piezoelectric effect, the company is committed to delivering a more comfortable, effective, and personalised teeth-whitening experience tailored to individual needs.
- Delonix Bioworks
Founded by Professor Jiandong Huang and Dr Lin Qiubin, Delonix Bioworks is a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of next-generation bacterial vaccines. Leveraging its proprietary synthetic biology and engineered vaccine technology platform, the company is advancing a diversified pipeline targeting critical unmet needs such as meningococcal disease, pertussis, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection. Among these, its Group B meningococcal OMV vaccine DX-104 is the first engineered OMV vaccine in China to receive approval for clinical development.
- Bone's Technology Limited
Founded by Professor William Weijia Lu of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Bone's Technology Limited is a national high-tech enterprise specialising in intelligent diagnosis and treatment solutions for musculoskeletal health. The company integrates artificial intelligence and biomechanics to develop innovative AI-powered solutions for bone and muscle health assessment and treatment. By pioneering the localised bone quality assessment theory, Bone's Technology has significantly improved the accuracy of bone density measurement to 90%, with the potential to revolutionise global musculoskeletal medical services.
- Oncoimmunostics Limited
Founded by Professor Nancy Kwan Man of the Department of Surgery, Oncoimmunostics Limited develops innovative biomimetic organ platforms, such as the "Liver-in-Cube," which utilises 3D bioprinting technology to reconstruct a three-dimensional, personalised tumour immune microenvironment in vitro. This platform enables highly accurate evaluation of drug efficacy and safety, effectively improving objective response rates and extending survival for cancer patients, thereby accelerating precision cancer treatment and innovative drug development.
- Yicura BioMed Limited
Founded in 2015 as a spin-off from the HKU AIDS Institute, Yicura BioMed Limited (formerly Immuno Cure BioTech Limited) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company dedicated to pioneering innovative nucleic acid medicine platform and antibody immunotherapies. The company targets three core therapeutic areas, namely infectious diseases, cancers, and inflammatory diseases. Its lead product, the therapeutic DNA vaccine ICVAX, aims to achieve a functional cure for HIV and is currently advancing into Phase II clinical trial.
Recognised as one of the world's largest and most influential biotech events, BIO 2026 brings together more than 20,000 industry leaders, investors, and innovators from around the world. This year, the Hong Kong Pavilion, organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and co-organised by Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), marks its largest exhibition scale to date. Alongside HKU and the other four local universities, 41 innovative enterprises will also take part, collectively showcasing Hong Kong's forefront research and development capabilities in next-generation therapeutics and diagnostics.
