Human remains located in Lysterfield

Police have located what is believed to be human remains during a search in Lysterfield this afternoon.

Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad were in the area as part of an ongoing investigation when the remains were located in a semi-rural area near Nixon Road about 1.30pm.

A post mortem will now be conducted.

At this stage the matter is being treated as suspicious.

The exact circumstances regarding the incident are yet to be determined, however police believe it is likely to be connected to a current missing persons case.

Police do not believe it is linked to the investigation into missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay or missing Lakes Entrance man Dale Pantic.

Further information will be provided once forensic testing of the remains has taken place.
