Lachlan Stevens to move into Head Coach role

Cricket Victoria can confirm interim coaching arrangements for the Victorian Men's Team with Andrew McDonald to depart the Victorian program this Friday, November 8.

Current Assistant Coach Lachlan Stevens will move into the role of Acting Head Coach for the remainder of the Marsh Sheffield Shield and Marsh One-Day Cup seasons.

After finishing his first-class career where he represented South Australia and Queensland from 2005 to 2007, Stevens worked as Queensland's assistant coach from 2008 to 2010, before taking the assistant coach role for Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers in 2011.

He was subsequently appointed head coach for both teams and took the Scorchers to the BBL|01 Final.

Stevens joined Cricket Victoria in the 2015-16 season and was involved in the Shield titles in 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2018-19. He has been an Assistant Coach with the Renegades BBL Squad since 2017 and was the inaugural WBBL Head Coach of the Renegades.

Stevens is joined by Michael Lewis and Andre Borovec in Victoria's men's coaching unit.

Cricket Victoria General Manager - Cricket Shaun Graf said Stevens was the appropriate choice.

"I'd like to thank Lachlan for accepting this opportunity. An excellent coach in his own right, Lachlan has been an important part of our program for several years and will give us the right level of continuity in our planning and operations," Graf said.

Stevens said he was looking forward to the challenge.

"It's a great chance to work in a different role for the rest of the season. We have a very talented group of players and as coaches and support staff our job is to get the best out of them individually and as a team. I'd like to congratulate Andrew on his appointment to the Australian team - he leaves our program in fantastic shape overall," Stevens said.

Stevens' first match in charge will be the Marsh Sheffield Shield fixture against Queensland which begins at the MCG next Tuesday.
