HRH Prince Philip was a great supporter of LSHTM's work for almost 70 years
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is deeply saddened to learn of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Philip became LSHTM's patron in 1952 and made numerous visits to LSHTM, including during its centenary celebration in 1999. In more recent years, HRH hosted our closest supporters at Buckingham Palace.
HRH remained patron of our School after he stepped down from public duties. In 2020, in his first public statement since retirement, HRH thanked those helping to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, including LSHTM.
Professor Peter Piot, Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said: "We extend our condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family at this difficult time. HRH Prince Philip was a great supporter of LSHTM's work for almost 70 years, taking an active interest in our researchers, students and our global role in public health."
