Morrison Government supporting key digital skills in defence industry

The Morrison Government has underlined the growing importance of the information and cyber domain in the modern battlespace with the release of two key Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority Implementation plans.

Minister for Defence Industry, Melissa Price said the Advanced signal processing capabilities and the Surveillance and intelligence plans were critical for maintaining superiority in the information and cyber domain.

"The latest Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority Implementation Plans outline the growing importance of the information and cyber domain in the modern battlespace," Minister Price said.

"This will become increasingly important as the character of warfare evolves.

"The 2020 Force Structure Plan committed $15 billion over the next decade to information and cyber capabilities.

"To develop and deliver these capabilities, we require a highly-skilled and secure Australian workforce.

"Businesses in adjacent sectors are strongly encouraged to consider opportunities in these areas.

"Skills in software engineering, data analytics and specialised electronics engineering play a key role in building sovereign defence industry capability."
