Motorcyclist caught riding at extreme speed, South Australia

A motorcycle rider has been arrested after being caught riding at dangerous speeds across the metropolitan area.

Police will allege that about 11.13pm on Monday 21 March, PolAir spotted a red Honda motorcycle travelling at 100km/h in a 60km/h zone on Waterloo Corner Road at Burton.

The bike was tracked to an industrial estate on Port Wakefield Road, where a blue Subaru WRX joined the bike. Both vehicles then sped off together, reaching speeds of about 160km/h in an 80km/h zone as they headed towards the city.

PolAir officers relayed this information to other patrols on the ground, who attempted to stop the bike and car but both refused to stop for police, with the WRX last seen in North Adelaide. It is believed to have Victorian registration of XPI-740.

The motorcycle continued to speed through the city and suburbs as it headed south, at times reaching speeds of 220km/h, driving through numerous red lights and on the wrong side of the road.

The bike was tracked to Clifford Street at Torrensville where it was abandoned and the rider ran away.

He was arrested soon after on Henley Beach Road.

The 38-year-old Seaton man was charged with extreme speed, drive disqualified, drive without due care and driving in a dangerous manner. He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.
