NSW national parks are filling fast across the State on the eve of the NSW school holidays but all visitors are reminded that they need to book ahead to secure their spot.
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Acting Director Visitor Experiences, Anthony Hutchings said the holidays were presenting another great opportunity for families to get out and about following the easing of travel restrictions and there is no better destination than a national park.
"A number of people who missed out on booking a campsite for the June long weekend, have planned ahead to secure their site for these holidays, but there are spaces left for those still yearning for the great outdoors," Mr Hutchings said.
"NPWS is still required to operate its campgrounds in line with the NSW Public Health order including taking steps to limit numbers within each campground or accommodation – so booking ahead is essential.
"Since reopening campgrounds our visitors have been really great – sticking closely to the allowable group numbers, practicing physical distancing and good hygiene – which will ensure together we can keep these special places open.
"In meeting the guidelines, every person who is staying in a national park must be registered as part of a booking – so it is important only the number of people declared on your booking turn up on the day.
"Some bookings include limits on the number of people and vehicles per site and, of course, visitors are asked to follow the necessary safety measures to keep the community safe from the spread of COVID 19.
"We are also expecting lots of day trippers to be heading out to spread a blanket and enjoy a picnic or take bushwalk amongst the winter wildflowers.
"Winter is the right time to spot a whale off one of our many headlands and with the cool nights, many parks allow campfires to roast your marshmallows over.
"We also know many of our regional towns are delighted to see parks travellers back out and about, so don't forget to stop off in the many regional towns for a coffee, spot of lunch or to poke around their many interesting shops.
"NPWS will continue working hard to open up as many campgrounds as possible for the public to enjoy."
