One critical, three injured after car hits pedestrians at Wollongong

A woman has been critically injured and another three people hospitalised after they were struck while walking along a footpath at Wollongong earlier tonight.

Emergency services were called to Flinders Street about 10.30pm (Saturday 7 November 2020), and found a woman suffering critical injuries, a man with serious leg injuries and two other people with minor injuries.

All four have been taken to Wollongong Hospital.

Officers from Wollongong Police District have been told a sedan was being driven south along Flinders Street when the driver allegedly lost control, ran off the road and struck the four people who were walking along the footpath.

The driver – a man believed to be aged in his 20s – has been arrested and taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing.

Flinders Street is currently closed between Gipps and Smith streets, and will be for some hours as the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) has been called to examine the scene.
