Police charge man with drug, firearm offences - Riverina

A man has been charged after drugs and firearms were seized in the state's Riverina last week.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District have been conducting inquiries since simultaneous search warrants were executed at homes in Tumut and Bombowlee on Friday 18 June 2021.

During the searches, it will be alleged police located seven firearms, including a sawn-off .410 calibre shot gun with its serial number removed.

Police also seized an M4 carbine assault rifle-style gel blaster, two extendable batons, aerosol cannons, cannabis and methylamphetamine. Items seized will undergo forensic examination.

It will be further alleged a man ran from the scene.

About 5.45pm on Thursday (24 June 2021), police arrested a 25-year-old man on Kirra Street, Tumut.

He has since been charged with several offences, including possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, not

keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm, acquire firearm no licence or permit – prohibited firearm, and use prohibited weapons contrary to prohibition order.

Investigations led officers to remote bushland 20km from Tumut, where they seized an additional four rifles.

The Tumut man appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Friday 25 June 2021, where he was formally refused bail to appear in Tumut Local Court today (Monday 28 June 2021).

Investigations are ongoing.
