Preston theft and deception

Whittlesea Crime Investigation Unit's Vehicle Crime Team are hoping to identify a man following a theft and subsequent deception in Melbourne's north last weekend.

Investigators have been told an unknown offender broke into a Mazda sedan that was parked at a residence on Graddaka Terrace, South Morang about 11am on Sunday 14 June, and stole a wallet.

The victim became aware of the theft when he noticed a number of unusual transactions on his online bank statement.

Investigators believe a man attended a service station on Murray Road, Preston in a stolen Toyota Kluger and used one of the cards to purchase fuel later that morning.

Detective have released an image of a man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.
