Applications are now open for volunteer coaches and officials in regional Western Australian to receive up to $1,000 to support skill development and accreditation.
The funding is to assist volunteer coaches and officials in regional WA with out-of-pocket travel and accommodation costs to participate in sport-specific courses to obtain high-level accreditations.
The subsidy can be for travel undertaken between September 1, 2020 and February 28, 2021.
The subsidy is available under the Coach and Official Education Subsidy administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. While this subsidy is being run as a pilot program, the intention is for it to be incorporated into an expanded travel scheme alongside the existing Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
"The Coach and Official Education Subsidy is a terrific new initiative to help regional coaches and officials access accreditation courses to improve their skills and sporting career paths.
"When these courses are run out of the region there can be a significant cost associated with travelling and attending that may be prohibitive to many people.
"Depending where they live in WA, coaches and officials will be eligible for a subsidy between $250 and $1,000 to help with out-of-pocket travel and accommodation expenses.
"This subsidy will go a long way towards ensuring regional people have access to the same opportunities to develop their skills as those in the metro area.
"The Regional Athlete Travel Scheme is a well-known and highly valued program amongst regional sportspeople, and it makes sense to expand it to cover talented coaches and officials."
