The McGowan Government has launched a Pilbara business register to allow local businesses to register their interest in working on the $121.5 million Spoilbank Marina project.
An estimated 221 direct jobs will be created during the two-year marina build.
A request for proposals to complete marine works on the project will be advertised within a few weeks with final tenders to be awarded shortly after that.
Early site works will begin in October.
The register of Pilbara businesses will be provided to prospective lead contractors to fast-track engagement of local workers and material suppliers.
Features of the Spoilbank Marina development include:
- a four-lane boat ramp;
- 21 boat-pen marina with capacity to expand to 80 pens in the future;
- separate entrance channel to the main shipping channel;
- trailer parking for up to 200 vehicles;
- maintenance hardstand;
- publicly accessible breakwaters with pedestrian path;
- public recreation and event space and public amenities;
- public fishing jetty;
- water feature;
- shade structures at swimming beach;
- waterfront promenade to reflect the Yintha Kariyarra creation serpent story; and
- public art and a cultural gathering space.

"The Spoilbank Marina is a massive project for Hedland and will involve considerable work opportunities for Pilbara businesses.
"This register gives local businesses the chance to get in early and flag their interest and expertise in civil infrastructure projects, ensuring the best possible opportunity to be a part of this transformational project."
