Rescue at Woonona Beach - Wollongong

This afternoon, Saturday 21 November, Wollongong City Council Lifeguards were called to Woonona Beach at about 5.45pm for a rescue operation.

Lifeguards from Bulli and Thirroul beaches - where they were on duty until 6pm - raced to the area north of Woonona Rock Pool.

They pulled two children and an adult male, believed to be in his 40s, from the water. It's understood they had slipped off the rocks into the sea.

The lifeguards were met on the sand by paramedics, but unfortunately the man was not able to be revived.

The two children were transported to hospital for assessment.
