Serious two vehicle crash at Four Mile Creek

At 3.53pm on Wednesday 13/4/22 police were notified about a 2-vehicle collision which occurred on Tasman Hwy at Four Mile Creek.

A Black Subaru Sedan driven by a 41-year-old St Helens man was travelling in a Northerly direction around a sweeping right bend when it lost control and collided with an Armco barrier on the side of the North bound lane. The vehicle then collided with the rear of a White Toyota Utility which was also travelling North and was being driven 51-year-old Scamander man. At the time of the crash a 30-year-old man from Four Mile Creek was a front seat passenger in the Subaru Sedan.

The force of the collision forced both vehicles to cross over the south bound lane of Tasman Hwy and both collided with the Armco barrier on the side of the south bound lane.

Tas Ambulance, Police, Tas Fire Service and SES units attended the scene. All three persons involved were removed from the vehicles. Two of the men involved were conveyed to St Helens Hospital where they received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the black Subaru Sedan was treated at the scene for life threatening chest and head injuries. He was transported by Air Ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles were destroyed in the crash.

Tasmania Police are investigating the crash, preliminary indications are that speed and alcohol were contributing factors.

Police are appealing for any person who has dash camera footage or who witnessed the driving of a black Subaru sedan on the Tasman Hwy at Four Mile Creek to contact St Marys Police Station on 63875620.
