Teenagers arrested after Meadow Heights scrub fire

Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested and charged two teenagers following a suspicious scrub fire in Meadow Heights overnight.

A small area of scrub land at the Shankland Boulevard Reserve was burnt before Fire Rescue Victoria extinguished the flames just before 4am.

Police arrested a 17-year-old Meadow Heights girl and charged her with criminal damage by fire and theft.

Police also arrested a 13-year-old Meadow Heights boy who was charged with criminal damage by fire, theft, commit indictable offence while on bail and use insulting words.

Both teenagers will face a children's court.

Investigators are keen to speak to two by-standers who attempted to put out the fire prior to the arrival of firefighters.
