Today, Administrator Samantha Power convened a roundtable of humanitarian leaders from donor governments to discuss responding to the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Participating in the conversation were representatives from Australia, Canada, Denmark, the EU, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
The leaders discussed the urgent need for civilians in Gaza to have access to continued assistance and the need for Israel to take every possible measure to protect civilian life. The leaders underscored their countries' commitment to supporting Israel and strong condemnation of Hamas's terrorism and brutal attacks on Israeli civilians.
The Administrator and Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zeya outlined the intensive U.S. diplomacy and efforts to coordinate the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
Administrator Power detailed the U.S. commitment of $100 million in humanitarian funding for Gaza that President Biden announced on October 18. This funding will support displaced and conflict-affected people with clean water, food, hygiene support, medical care and other essential needs. The Administrator expressed U.S. appreciation for donor governments already providing funding and urged the group to continue to step up their own support.
