Wanted man arrested, 'ice' seized at border at Albury

A man wanted on an outstanding warrant has been arrested after trying to cross into NSW from Victoria early this morning.

Officers attached to Operation Border Closure stopped a Holden Monaro at a checkpoint on the Hume Highway, Albury, about 3.15am (Tuesday 3 November 2020).

Police spoke to the occupants, two men aged 37, and checks revealed the passenger, a Wodonga man, was wanted on an outstanding warrant for alleged traffic offences.

He was arrested and searched by police, with 3.14 grams of the drug 'ice' and $1550 cash allegedly found in his possession.

The driver ­was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result, before being taken to Albury Hospital to undergo blood and urine testing.

The passenger was taken to Albury Police Station, where the outstanding arrest warrant was executed.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Albury Local Court today (November 3 November 2020).
