Woman set alight, man charged at Liverpool

A man is due to appear in court today charged after allegedly setting fire to his wife at Liverpool overnight.

Emergency services were called to the home on Elizabeth Drive about 6pm (Saturday 26 June 2021), and found a 30-year-old woman suffering burns to her left leg and left hand.

The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command arrested a 36-year-old man at the home a short time later, and took him to Liverpool Police Station, where he has now been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police will allege in court the man splashed petrol over his wife's clothing before lighting a cigarette, which set her clothing alight.

The man has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 27 June 2021).

Police have been told the woman was released from hospital a short time ago after treatment.
