Yarra to create a vision for future

Yarra Council has kicked off a year-long journey with locals to create the city's first-ever community vision.

Mayor Cr Gabrielle de Vietri said that the new vision would guide Council's planning for the next 15 years, and help make Yarra an even healthier, happier and vibrant city.

"We're asking our community what needs to happen to make sure that Yarra's the best it can be in 2035," Cr de Vietri said.

The community vision will guide our planning in Yarra over the next 15 years, as we face challenges like a changing climate and growing population.

Cr de Vietri said it was an exciting chance to challenge some of the traditional ideas about how we live, play and work, as we recover from the pandemic.

The first stage of the project, which began in early November, has already seen over 600 residents, businesses and visitors have their say on what future they want.

"We're absolutely thrilled with how engaged our community has been, particularly as we emerge from months of COVID restrictions."

"I'd love to see even more people have their say on what they really think about life in Yarra," Cr de Vietri said.

Feedback from the broader community will be considered by a randomly selected panel of residents in mid-2021, who will work together to create the community vision.

"This is a once-in-a-generation chance to make your mark on this special place we all love," Cr de Vietri said.
