Weekend crowds have set a record for 2020 with footfall surpassing pre-COVID-19 levels over the final Friday, Saturday and Sunday before Christmas.
People flocked in from across Perth to do their Christmas shopping, visit the iconic Christmas Lights Trail and soak up the festive atmosphere complete with roving entertainment.
Saturday evening 19 December marked the biggest crowds the City has seen in over 18-months and Sunday evening 20 December drew larger night time crowds than experienced on Australia Day 2019.
The City of Perth free three-hour weekend parking has resulted in an additional 11,000 cars in City of Perth (CPP) carparks on weekends, compared with this time last year.
Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said that it was fabulous to see the City lit up and full of people of all ages.
"I'm delighted to say that there were more people in the City over the past weekend than the same time last year. Despite the global pandemic Western Australians are supporting local businesses and enjoying all our great city has to offer," Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said.
"The free three-hour weekend parking and the amazing Christmas Lights Trail has been enormously popular and compliment the City's array of retail, boutique stores, dining and entertainment options. There really is no better place to be for Christmas in 2020."
The Christmas Lights Trail will run until 3 January 2021 and the free three-hour weekend parking in City of Perth (CPP) carparks will continue until 31 January 2021 coinciding with the post-Christmas sales.
