Federation Council celebrated local volunteers with a two course lunch at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Resort on Friday, June 18.

Federation Council, Councillor Bronwyn Thomas hosted the event adding a fun and enthusiastic light to the entire day.

"It was so great to have everyone come together, in one room again and just acknowledge the fabulous work our volunteers do within the community," she said.

2020 Federation Council Citizen of the Year Liz Seeliger spoke to her experience with local volunteer committees as well as spoke to the fantastic work, Vivian Spilva, Federation Council's 2021 Citizen of the Year who unfortunately was unable to make it, does within the community.

Council welcomed Mr. Robert Fitzgerald as the 2021 Volunteer Lunch guest speaker, who travelled from Sydney, along with his wife Kate Fitzgerald for the occasion.

Bob talked to his 37 years within the police force and the countless committees and volunteer groups he is honoured to be a part of.

"This is a beautiful part of the country here in Mulwala, and it is great to see so many volunteers here with us today," Bob said.

"It was a pleasure to see so many of Federation's Community groups pop onto buses and make the day a great success, filled with such appreciation, fun and togetherness."

In his conclusion, Bob said an inspiring statement for young students and community leaders for further consideration.

"To our students here with us today, the future of volunteering and community work starts with you," he said.

"I encourage everyone to mentor our youth, because such community pride will one day be handed over to the youngest members of our communities."

Federation Council would like to thank all volunteers within the Council community who bring such pride and spirit to everything that happens throughout the towns and villages.

Council looks forward with anticipation to next year's celebration and of course continuing to work with the many volunteers within the Local Government area in the near future.
